Engine mount/engine mounting It is a vibration damping device installed between the engine and the body. It mainly has the following functions:
1. Support engine weight
The engine is one of the important components of the vehicle and requires a bracket to firmly fix it to the vehicle body to prevent it from sagging or shifting due to gravity.
2. Reduce vibration transmission
The engine will produce various vibrations when it is running. If it is directly transmitted to the vehicle body, it will affect the ride comfort. The bracket plays the role of vibration damping and buffering, blocking the transmission of vibration to the vehicle body.
3. Allow small displacements
The design of the bracket should take into account the thermal expansion, contraction and small displacement of the engine during operation, and provide a certain amount of space for movement.
4. Reduce noise
The vibration-damping effect of the bracket also helps reduce the transmission of engine noise to the vehicle body.
Engine mounts are usually composed of hydraulic shock absorbers, rubber shock absorbing pads, etc. The materials require certain strength, heat resistance and elasticity. Depending on the engine model and layout location, the number and installation locations of the brackets also vary, generally 2-4.
The engine bracket is installed at the connection point between the engine and the body, such as the engine lower guard plate, suspension bracket, etc. When the engine vibrates, the bracket can absorb and digest these vibrations to prevent the vibrations from being directly transmitted to the body structure.
In short, as the “buffer zone” between the engine and the body, the engine bracket plays an important role in support, vibration reduction, and isolation, ensuring that the engine can be installed firmly and smoothly on the car, improving driving comfort.
